Dog Training Lesson 11 : "Fetch me the newspaper."

Many of us view dogs as pets...merely pet...But do we realize that these amazing animals can actually be more than a pet? We have seen dogs performing rescue operation, bomb detection as well as drug detection --- which then made them theENEMY of the villains. However, for normal people like us, we do not need our dog to be a superhero or become BOLT.

B
ut we could always train our dog to perform simple task such as fetching the newspaper in the morning or even bring us the sandals whenever we walk in to the house after a tiring day.

So here comes the dog training training lesson for fetching stuff:
  1. Start by using a ball, small one such as the tennis ball is an ideal choice. Then move the ball several times in front of your dog to make him aware.
  2. Throw the ball to a distance away (NOT SO FAR for the first time) and point to the ball and say "FETCH".
Usually your dog would react by running for the ball then bite it, BUT do not return the ball to you. At this point what you should do is simply ask him to come and ask for the ball from him.

Be aware
: Some dogs might get rather aggressive because he would think that you are trying to take away something which belongs to him. Should this happen, make sure that you DO NOT attempt to forcefully take the ball away from him. Wait for awhile and repeat the dog training lesson until your dog understand what is your intention.

However, keep in mind that dogs have different talent and most of these talents are inherited such that ST BERNARD DOGS are meant mostly for rescue job (during the old days where they would use the dogs to save people trap in the snow). So if your dog do not respond well to the dog training, it doesn't mean that he is stupid or being defiant, he just needs more practice.

After you have succeeded for several times, this time you could change to other objects and increase the distance of every throw.

GOOD LUCK dog lovers for this dog training lesson!!
